New Jersey Minimum Wage Has Increased to $8.50 per Hour in 2009

In the report of the State of New Jersey Minimum Wage Advisory Commission, there is new policy about the minimum wage of New Jersey. In the report, the commission clearly states that the minimum wage of New Jersey has increased from $7.15 per hour to $8.50 per hour in 2009. The new policy had been taken effect on January 1, 2009.

The Commission also recommend that the minimum wage should be increased automatically from year to year based on the increase in the consumer price index. What’s more, the Commission also recommends that a minimum cash wage requirement for tipped workers should be set up.

It should be noted that the Commission had made recommendations in the Commission’s First Annual Report in 2007 for a minimum wage increase from $7.15 per hour to $8.25 per hour. However, its recommendations never were signed into law.

If raising the minimum wage is a good idea, why stop at $7 or 8 per hour? Let's raise the minimum wage to $30 per hour.

We do not do that for the simple reason that it discourages employment, reduces the availability of entry level jobs, and makes it cost-inefficient to do lots of things in our economy.

This is also true at the current levels. No more inexpensive babysitters, with corresponding missing babysitter jobs for high schoolers. Local teens are less likely to mow lawns or shovel snow.

The minimum wage is an economic cost. Some say that it reduces the exploitation of workers. Some say that it raises living standards. Neither is really true.

Why stop at $30 per hour? Let's raise the minimum wage to $200 per hour! Then the few people working can make lots of money. The rest of us can be unemployed and collect welfare.

you're an idiot. presumably, things are going fine for you, so everybody else can just go fuck themselves, right? or maybe they just aren't trying hard enough? i happen to believe that if you offer someone a job, you should pay them a wage they can live on and if you can't do that, then you have no business offering jobs to anybody. that's fair. anything otherwise is uncivilized. i know it offends people like you, the idea that some uneducated person working at mcdonald's might actually earn enough to pay his rent and (god forbid!) have enough left to feed himself afterwards, but that's because you're a libertarian jerk-off.

If you do not like the wage offered for unskilled labor you have the right to not take the job offer.

This is America a land where even in a recession ppl show audacity to excel and move ahead in life, be it by obtaining a better education, starting a new business, a combination of both or taking the best job that they can get and work their asses off to rise up the ranks.

To force businesses to pay employees a specific hourly wage only hurts the economy in tye long run but hurting small businesses and creating less jobs.

How can one justify paying someone who mops a floor or fries french fries $12 is beyond me.

I understand that minimum wage is very hard to live on, but this is why many of these ppl take on second jobs, bust their asses to get promoted.

The CEO of Mcdonalds started at Mcdonalds with minimum wage he is now one of the highest paid CEOs in America making over a million a year.
